Digital Literacy 101: Your First Steps Online

Before AI, before websites, before anything advanced, there is a much simpler starting point: knowing how to confidently use email, basic Google Workspace tools, and a spreadsheet. Stage 2 of our roadmap exists because these fundamentals are so easy to skip past and so important once you need them.

A professional email is often the first impression anyone gets of you online — whether it's a student, a collaborator, or an institution. Knowing how to write one clearly, attach a document correctly, and organise your inbox is a small skill with an outsized impact.

Google Docs and Sheets let you write, edit and share documents without needing to install anything, and they auto-save as you work — useful for anyone still building confidence with technology, since nothing is lost to a crash or a closed window.

Microsoft Excel, meanwhile, is one of the most widely used tools in offices, schools and small businesses worldwide. Even basic comfort with it — entering data, using simple formulas, organising a list — opens doors that have nothing to do with religious scholarship and everything to do with everyday opportunity.

None of this is complicated once someone shows you, patiently, step by step. That is the whole idea behind Stage 2: not to overwhelm, but to build a foundation calmly, one real task at a time.
